Description
Activities
Besides research, there is a strong motivation to utilize theoretical results in industry. In the last 25 years Tamas Varady directed many research projects on geometric modeling and software developments for various industrial applications world-wide. The algorithms written at the lab have been integrated into commercial CAD/CAM systems both in Europe and the United States.
During the past five years, research was focused on Reverse Engineering of shapes. There are many areas of engineering, medical sciences and art where an appropriate computer representation of existing objects needs to be created from huge sets of measured data points. Typical applications include reproducing parts, when no original drawings or documentation are available, but analysis and modifications are required to construct new improved products. Another important area is to generate personalized objects that fit human surfaces for custom parts such as helmets, or prostheses.
