MTA SZTAKI Hosts The Hungarian Office of W3C

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) was established in October 1994 to maximize the value of the World Wide Web by developing common protocols that promote its evolution and ensure its universality.

W3C has around 450 Member organizations from all over the world and has earned international recognition for its contributions to the growth of the Web.

W3C creates Web standards; Its mission is to develop technologies (specifications, guidelines, software, and tools) that will create a forum for information, commerce, inspiration, independent thought, and collective understanding.

W3C organizes the work necessary for the development or evolution of a Web technology into Activities. Each Activity has its own structure, but an Activity typically consists of a Working Group, Interest Group, and Coordination Group. Within the framework of an Activity, these groups generally produce recommendations and other technical reports as well as sample code. Currently there are 39 W3C Activities.

The W3C Offices assist with promotion efforts in local languages, help broaden W3C's geographical base, and encourage international participation in W3C Activities.

MTA SZTAKI has been W3C Member since 1995, and hosted the W3C Hungarian Office since 2002.

The Hungarian Office is the first office in Central Europe, joining an active roster working on the realization of the full potential of the Web and further developing the mission W3C. This roster includes a number of European Offices of W3C as well as the W3C European host site at ERCIM in France.
