SZTAKI - a reliable and creative partner in R&D and contract-based applied research

Contract-based target research, development, training for and support of industrial clients and government institutions are important activities at the Institute. The Institute is independent. Its independence of both Hungarian and multinational corporations as well as of Government agencies assures scientifically objective approach to technical matters – our clients appreciate this and work with us to optimize the benefits only and exclusively for themselves. All units at the Institute operate as individual profit centers; the basic research activity is financed from budget subsidy and he applied research and development activities live from revenues derived from commercial contracts and research grants.

The Targets of the Institute’s Services are: Industry, Governments and Educational Institutions

The Institution’s services are universal in that there is something for everyone. The services and "products" range from graduate and post graduate education in the form of live lectures or through e-learning for industrial clients and government agencies, devices and methods to keep the world’s history and culture alive and relevant (See Digital Techniques for The Restoration of Movie Films) and other on-line services.; SZTAKI hosts websites for enterprises, organizations, individuals and digital and web visual artists. Our researchers are very knowledgeable in many fields, so they are invited to do tender on a variety of projects. At the Institute there is work going on in the field of E-Government, Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM), Transport Automation, Grid Computing and development of the World Wide Web. The Institute is also the only Hungarian professional conference organizer. In addition SZTAKI provides on-line services for the internet community: the most popular English-Hungarian on-line dictionary, a German-Hungarian and a French-Hungarian on-line dictionaries, as well as a voting and a rating system and site mirrors on the internet. The Subject of the Services – Turn-key solutions, On-line Services, Constructing and Consulting

The Institute's research and development activity aims primarily at creating custom-designed computer-based applications, system design, system integration, consulting, and providing turn-key systems. Our scientists and engineers have the necessary field-specific expertise (theoretical, technological and methodological experience) with which they can implement - in close co-operation with potential users - functional plans including system development, software design and hardware design. The members of the Institute will install the system, train the users, supervise the start-up phase and provide follow-up maintenance and service for its software and hardware products.

The Subject of the Services – Education

The Institute is mandated to provide graduate and post-graduate education, educational services are also provided to industry and to the public – Education and basic research remains the focus at SZTAKI. The Database Management Solutions Division gives regularly hands-on courses on Linux and Multimedia Flash. They are accredited to give certification of computer competence in the framework of The European Computer Driving Licence® (ECDL). The Department gives both courses and the examination for ECDL certification. ECDL is the first pan-European Union qualification in personal computing skills. It is designed specifically for those who wish to gain a basic qualification in computing to help them with their current job, to help them grow their skills and enhance career prospects or just for general interest. Courses are given either on-site or at the Institute for both industry and the general public. Another regular educational service is provided by the Parallel and Distributed Systems Laboratory; the laboratory gives courses and seminars on Parallel Programming for Computer Clusters and Grids to industrial clients.
